Summary of Breakdown Cover
Please read this document carefully. The information given here is only a summary of the cover provided. Full terms and conditions can be found within the policy document so please take time to read this and understand the cover it provides.
Vehicle Breakdown and Key Protection Cover is underwritten by Inter Partner Assistance S.A (part of the worldwide AXA Group), The Quadrangle, 106-118 Station Road Redhill, Surrey RH1 1PR. Motorists’ Legal Expenses Cover, has been arranged through Amicus Legal Ltd and is underwritten by DAS Legal Expenses Insurance Company Limited. All cover will run for 12 months or as shown on your Breakdown Cover policy schedule.
Depending on the level of cover chosen, the following sections will apply:
Breakdown Direct 101: includes section A - roadside assistance and local recovery in the UK, plus Legal Advice
Breakdown Direct 201: includes sections A & B - all the benefits of 101 plus Nationwide Recovery in the UK, and Key Protection Cover.
Breakdown Direct 301: includes sections A, B and C: all the benefits of 201 plus Homestarter in the UK, and Motorists’ Legal Cover.
Breakdown Direct 401: includes sections A, B, C and D: all the benefits of 301 plus cover in Western Europe.
Significant features and benefits
- Your policy covers your vehicle or anyone driving with your permission.
- Roadside Assistance and up to 60 minutes labour. Section A.
- Local Recovery within 15 miles of the Breakdown. Section A.
- Nationwide Recovery within the UK if the vehicle cannot be fixed at the roadside or at a local garage the same day. Section B.
- Vehicle hire to continue the journey. Section B.
- Overnight accommodation. Section B.
- Assistance within 1 mile of the home address. Section C.
- Western European cover applies to vehicles up to ten years old for 31 days any one trip and 90 days in all. Section D
- Caravan & trailer cover.
- Key Protection Cover, up to £350 per annum in total, including VAT.
- Motorist's legal advice and expenses, up to £100,000. Helps you to recover uninsured losses and costs from the person responsible, if your vehicle is accidentally damaged or you and/or your passengers are harmed.
Breakdown Cover - Significant or unusual exclusions or limitations
- At the start of cover, your vehicle must be no older than 15 years old (ten years old for Breakdown Direct 401), and in good working order.
- Any breakdown that happens during the first 24 hours after cover is taken out for the first time, except for benefits available under Section A, which are available immediately.
- The cost of replacement fuel or for any spare parts required to restore the mobility of your vehicle
- Assistance or recovery if your vehicle is partly or completely buried in snow, mud, sand or water.
- Recovery or Assistance where the vehicle exceeds 3,500 kg gross vehicle weight or 5.1m in length, 2m in height and 2.1m in width.
- Recovery or assistance where your vehicle is being used for the carriage of people for hire or reward, unless we have agreed this with you.
- Ferry fees and tolls.
- We can provide assistance after a road traffic accident but all costs will be your responsibility. Your motor insurer may meet these.
- You can upgrade your cover at any time, but if you do this during the period of cover, you must pay the full annual premium for the extra cover, less any amount already paid. There will also be an administration fee, which we will tell you about, and obtain your agreement before we process your upgrade.
Motorists legal expenses Cover - Significant or unusual exclusions or limitations
- It must be more likely than not, that Amicus Legal Limited will recover damages.
- Any legal costs and expenses incurred before Amicus Legal Limited have accepted the claim.
- All claims must be registered within 180 days of the accident happening.
Key Protection Cover - Significant or unusual exclusions or limitations
- All claims must be reported to AXA Assistance within 48 hours of the incident first taking place.
- The complete list of exclusions and conditions are available in the relevant sections of the policy document.
- This contract is valid for one year or as shown on your policy schedule.
Cancellation Period
- If you wish to cancel this cover, you have 14 days from the time you receive the policy documentation to do so, by contacting Breakdown Direct at info@breakdowndirect.co.uk, or through your online account. We will return any premium paid in full providing no claims have been made on the policy during that time.

To obtain Breakdown and Key Cover assistance in the UK, contact the 24-Hour emergency helpline on: 0800 389 5424 or 00 44 1737 815224, when outside the UK. To make a claim on your Motorists’ Legal Expenses Cover, contact Amicus Legal Limited on 01206 366500.
Making Yourself Heard
Our aim is 100% customer satisfaction, but, if you have a complaint, please contact the Customer Service Manager at Breakdown Direct on csm@breakdowndirect.co.uk.
In the event of you not being satisfied with the handling of your complaint, for:
- Breakdown and Key Protection Cover, you can write to the Quality Manager, who will arrange an investigation on behalf of the General Manager, at: Inter partner Assistance, The Quadrangle, 106-118 Station Road, Redhill, Surrey RH1 1PR or telephone 0870 609 0023.
- Motorists’ Legal Expenses Cover, please write to the Claims Director, Amicus Legal Ltd, The Old Exchange, 64 West Stockwell Street, Colchester, CO1 1HE.
If it is impossible to reach an agreement you have the right to make an appeal to the Financial Ombudsman Service, South Quay Plaza, 183 Marsh Wall, Docklands, London E14 9SR or telephone 0845 080 1800.
The existence of these procedures does not affect your right to take legal proceedings.
